You know how sometimes you go into something feeling like “this is gonna suck” and then it turns out to be the best experience of your life? Yesterday was one on those moments.
We’d been queing all day and the fans there were just not a joy to be around, we were so sure they’d do everything in their power to cut in front of us etc etc. However when it became close to doors the security let us in 10 minutes before the others so Sanchia had a chance to make it to the front. We besically just slendered up there without any stress…it was a great feeling.
As we got there it got even better, the Beautiful Thieves Viny was taped right there to the barrier so I got my hands on it quickly. Now this is experience was both good and bad, I’m so happy I got the vinyl to keep but we just couldn’t go backstage again…we’d just been there, it would simply have been rude and selfish. So with a heavy heart I let Sanchia and Lucy go instead… It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
Yeah I’ve met them before and many times too, but it’s still one of my biggest dreams to continue meeting them..so to give that up… it’s so fucking harsh. I’m really happy for Sanchia and Lucy, they were floating on clouds when they came back but it was just hard and at that moment I thought again “Ok, this day is just gonna suck”
Oh was I proven wrong…
Atfter a mediocre gig in Glasgow last night where nothing really exciting happened and it was just sorta there, We went to talk to Davey. He was like “Hello again” *heartmelt* there is nothing quite like being recognized. I asked him if there was any chance they could play Cold Hands or Despair Factor, Camilla threw in Darling, I want to Destroy you. He told us that he’d love to play the new ones and would take it up with the other guys, so…
While standing there in Manchester we had big hopes they would actually play it and even bigger hopes they’d play “Ok, I feel better now” after hearing them soundcheck it. They did that and so much more….
It was seriously without a doubt the best gig I’ve ever seen with them and probably ever will see.
They played those two songs plus Perfect Fit (OMG) and just all my faves. The band was completely on fucking fire, I’ve never seen them THAT much into a show or that happy. You could jut tell this was a great experience for them as well.
I had a couple of moments with Davey that just made everything better as well. First of all, he kept staring at Camilla and I and at one point he actually smiles/smirks in this really sexy fucking way to me and to top if of he finishes it with a wink… I about fucking died.
Very shortly after they played “Perfect Fit” which made us go crazy with excitement. We were screaming along and just a bit before the end of it he jumped off the stage and came right down where we were standing. Normally I tend to stand back a bit when he does such things but I was so totally fucking into that I did not bother.
I held his very sweaty but very soft hand for the longest time, touched his even more sweaty arm and his back when he went back onto the stage…and it was epic, a rightfully deserved “fangirl” moment.
And the night just kept getting better and better, not only did they play so many of my favorite songs which in itself would have been enough… hell I almost broke into epic sobs when they played Ok, I feel better now… they were also joined on stage for Love Like Winter by Dan Under from the opening band Dear and departed which is one of my favorite bands… oh my god. We’d talked quite a bit to Dan so seeing him up there with AFI was awesome.
When the concert ended we walked over to the merch…completely blown away and on our way there we run into Lou from SOIA. Normally we wouldn’t actually talk to him, we’ve seen him many times just walking by but this time we full on went up to him and was like “WOW this night is AWESOME.” He totally agreed and said Davey had run over to him at the side of the stage and told him that “This is an awesome show”, my heart about exploded with joy. He told us about how they’d been friends with AFI since they were teenagers etc etc. All stuff I knew, but cool to hear from him.
We said “See you in Newcastle” and then went on our merry little floating clouds way when Camilla saw Dan from Dear and departed stand by the merch. We hurried over there and were like “OH MY GOD!!!” got a huge and heartfelt hug from him and gushed with him about how epic this night was and how awesome it was that he’d joined them on stage.
He asked about my chestpiece, who’d done it etc and i told him the story and then proceeded to show him my Davey portrait which he thought was awesome. He pointed to Davey’s finger tattoos on my portrait and was like “You know, I actualy did these” I was like “Really?! I had no clue” haha it was true too. I asked him how the hell they keep them so well cause mine fade (I showed mine to him) and he was like “It’s just gotta be done right” arrghhhh that doesn’t help me haha. He can touch them up when he’s gonna ink us in September haha
We talked a bit more to Dan and then told him we’d see him in Newcastle and moved out of the venue.
We hung around for a bit and then headed back to the hotel feeling completely blown away. I have seen MANY MANYYYY AFI gigs and none of them comes close to this one. I wish I could tell it more excitingly, express how awesome it was and remember ll the tiny details tht made it that way… but I never can… you’re just gonna have to take my word for it ;)
Wow… what a night!!!!
